Outrageous controls: Officials try to stop refugee protest

traiskirchen Transpi

A big number of refugees from the camp in Traiskirchen plan to participate tomorrow, 24.11.2012, in the protest march from Traiskirchen to Vienna. The camp's administration tries to stop this by all means:

Residents of the camp report that today, a notice was brought to their attention. According to it the refugees have to be in their rooms at 8:30 am to be read for a control, this control will be finished around 2pm. The refugees, by the rules of the camp, are obliged to appear at the camp on a daily basis. In our experience it is totally unusual, that one of these not unusual controls takes place on a saturday. Everybody who doesn't attend this controls, is threatened by losing every social support, exclusion from the camp and therefore homelessnes and in the worst case becoming an "illegal migrant".

Roman Dietinger, one of the supporters of the refugee march: "That refugees are facing these controls, exactly the same time the protest march is planned to start, is  no coincidence but an attempt to prevent the refugees by intimidation and repression from taking to streets and demand their rights. The right to live a humane life, which is the only thing the refugees are demanding, is trampled under foot by these measures"

Meanwhile the preparations for the protestmarch and the following and the following permanenet manifestation in vienna are running at full speed: "All of us, together, will march from Traiskirchen to Vienna. The camp's administration and the police will not be able to stop us. In the worst case we have to wait till all controls are finished. Especially in this situation, we call everybody to show solidarity with the refugees and to come to the camp in Traiskirchen from 7am," Dietinger continues.
