[Β] Sostenibilidad de la vida (workshop)

Emanzipation

What do we mean by "sostenibilidad de la vida"? In the gender AG of FAU Berlin we are trying to develop a new perspective towards unionism centered in the "sostenibilidad de la vida" (sustainability of life). But, what do we mean by "sostenibilidad"? And by "vida"? How do we want to live? How does this vision interact with the marxist perspective centered in the (capitalist) markets? Is it possible to take a collective responsibility of sustaining life? We want to answer these questions collectively.

In the gender AG of FAU Berlin we are trying to develop a new perspective towards unionism centered in "sostenibilidad de la vida" (sustainability of life). But, what do we mean by "sostenibilidad"? And by "vida"?   How do we want to live?  How does this vision interact with the marxist perspective centered in the (capitalist) markets? Is it possible to take a collective responsibility of sustaining life?

We want to answer these questions collectively, so we need you! We want invite the people from different feminist initiatives to join this discussion and contribute to the development of this work.

These questions arise when we try to complement and enrich the usual perspective from the union action and union work with elements from feminist economy. We take as our inspirational text Pérez Orozco's book Subversión feminista de la economía (Feminist subversion of economy), and we try to adapt its ideas to our context. We would also like to explore different ways 'Sostenibilidad de la vida' can be translated to German, and try to find a term that makes sense for us.

In the future, we will use the results of this workshop to study the conflict between capital and life, and how can we fight against capitalism and patriarchy from this point of view in FAU Berlin.

The structure will be the following:
1. Short input from the Gender AG about key concepts and questions (10-15 min)
2. Small discussion groups around different questions and ideas (45-60 min)
3. Break with snacks (20 min)
4. Share conclusions of every discussion group (5 min per group)

In the next days after the event, and after collecting the conclusions, the Gender AG will share with the participants a small text summarizing the ideas that appeared in the workshop.

The workshop will be in English with whispered translation into German.
