1,000 Australians tell Westpac bank to stop funding Adani’s dangerous coal mine

Rallies outside Westpac branches to protest against Adani coal mine funding.

Yesterday in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane, branches of the Westpac bank had a people-powered surprise on their doorsteps - more than 1,000 people turned out to tell them to turn their back on the dangerous Adani coal mine planned for Queensland. This is just a taste of what’s to come for Westpac until they rule out bankrolling Adani’s Carmichael coal mine. Young people across the country are going to take on their local Westpac branches, build relationships with staff, hold weekly actions and use Westpac’s brand against them.

But they need your help before they can get started. Can you spare $40 to #StopAdani by pushing Westpac to rule out ever funding the mine that could destroy our future? Chip in $40 and we’ll post you a photo of young people taking on Westpac in your state.

It works. We’ve done it before. These exact tactics moved CommBank to cancel their relationship with Adani and create stronger climate policies. Right now we have young people ready to go, we just need to put resources in their hands. Chip in $40 today to put posters, stickers and flyers in the hands of young people across the country.

Westpac have done deals with Adani before. $643 million in deals in fact. The other big banks have have been smart enough to rule out funding Adani, along with 11 other international banks - it’s time for Westpac to do the same.

When we work together we are stronger. In collaboration with 350.org, GetUp, ACF and other grassroots groups, you are part of an unstoppable movement that will win this campaign and stop this mine for good.

2017 is the year we #StopAdani. First step is to stop the money, and Westpac are the only big bank who haven’t walked away. Adopt your local Westpac branch using this toolkit: http://www.aycc.org.au/adoptabranch.
