Finland: stop treating indigenous Saami as second-class citizens!

A traditional Saami family

Dear friends of the rainforests,

We like to think of Scandinavia as a peaceful, prosperous and just part of the world. And for the most part, it is — unless you belong to the indigenous Saami people in Finland. Timber, pulp and mining companies are moving in on their territory, but the Saami do not have a voice: despite years of empty promises, Finland has still not adopted the Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention (ILO 169).

ILO 169 would give the Saami their say about aggressive, unsustainable mining and logging projects on their territory and guarantee their role as the traditional stewards of their fragile boreal ecosystem.

Tell the government of Finland to put indigenous rights and a healthy environment before the interests of Big Business and finally adopt ILO 169.

TAKE ACTION

Thanks for being involved,
