Pressure is building on the coal-addicted right-of-centre Australian Turnbull government to ditch Adani's dodgy coal mine and protect our beautiful Great Barrier Reef. Because of hundreds of protest actions across the country, Liberal [government] and Labor [Opposition] Members of Parliament are breaking ranks to speak out against Adani. And just last week, Labor’s shadow Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Mark Butler, said Adani’s disastrous mine would “not be a positive thing for Australia”. We know, if we keep the pressure on, we can win this. So, let’s turn it up a notch!
From now until the 6th August, federal MPs are in their home electorate offices for the winter break. We won’t let up until they speak out against Adani too.
By August 6th, we want MPs across the country speaking out publicly against the billion dollar government loan to Adani.
If our political leaders don’t act now, our beautiful Great Barrier Reef could be gone forever – along with the thousands of fish, dolphins, turtles, whales and other incredible creatures that live there.
UNESCO has just released a report warning that the reef will be dead by the end of this century if we don’t rapidly cut pollution and slow global warming.
And last week, Australia’s “godfather of coral”, Dr Charlie Veron, along with Sir Richard Branson, Sylvia Earle and leading oceanographers and marine biologists, called on the Turnbull Government to revoke approval for Adani's mega-polluting coal mine.
People across the globe are uniting to say – we choose our beautiful reefs, not more polluting coal. We have to keep the pressure up!
Here’s how you can get involved:
If you’re already in a local action group, download the toolkit to survey your community and deliver the results to your MP. Surveying is a great way to have conversations about Adani with people in your community and a great way to show your MP how your community feels.
If you’re not in a local action group yet but you’d like to be, host a screening of Guarding the Galilee, the official #StopAdani documentary, and ask people who attend to start a local group with you. Films are a great way to spark discussion and action.
If you’re not in a local group and you’re not ready to start one, join the mass coordinated call to Turnbull. Call Turnbull once a week, every week until the 6th August. If hundreds of people sign up to call, we can make sure Turnbull receives calls all day every day.
Together we can win this. Our movement is powerful. And the more MPs we encourage to speak out, the more pressure the Turnbull Government feels to ditch this dodgy coal mine once and for all.

What is the issue?
Right now, Adani is itching to dig one of the biggest coal mines in the world in Queensland’s Galilee Basin.
If it goes ahead, burning coal from the megamine would generate billions of tonnes of pollution, fuel global warming and irreversibly damage our Great Barrier Reef.
The reef is one of the most incredible places on Earth, home to fish, corals, turtles, whales, dolphins, sharks and rays. But it's in grave danger.
Any day now, our federal government could hand over a $1billion of public money to Adani for a coal-carting railway from the Galilee Basin to the Great Barrier Reef. But our public money is not a slush fund for a dodgy company's climate-wrecking project with a dead end future.
It’s a disgrace. And we won’t stand for it.
Already, millions of people right across Australia have stepped up to stop Adani’s dangerous mine. Over a million people signed the petition to tell Turnbull we say no to a $1billion handout to Adani. Thousands of us came together for the #StopAdani roadshow and hundreds are now running local groups and events to pressure their elected representatives. This is one of the biggest campaigns in our history.
Together, we'll #StopAdani and say #NoMoreCoal.
