The Audiencia Nacional (spanish special court) has ordered the
release without bail of three of the five people that were still in
preventive prison, arrested under the Operación Piñata last 31th
of March. According to what was declared to Diagonal newspaper by one of
the lawyers who represents the defendants of Operación Piñata,
Daniel Amelang, they are now waiting that the court decides about the
freedom of the other two persons that are still in preventive
prison.
“The Audiencia Nacional has considered that the
preventive prison was disproportionate”, explains Amelang. “For
now they keep the accusations against them, but they have seen that
is unnecessary that they are now in prison”, he concludes. The
three people were released during the 1st of June
afternoon from the different prisons that they were transferred last
18th of May.
The order for release highlights that
the resolution made by the judge Eloy Velasco from the Audiencia
Nacional did not provide enough evidences or “enough” specificity
of the alleged terrorist activities allegedly committed by the
detainees for ordering their preventive prison. The papers also note
an appeal from the defense of one of the detainees in which they
highlight that the link between GAC (Coordinated Anarchist Groups)
and the terrorism was “absolutely unjustified”.
The
Operación Piñata was carried out last 31st of march and
meaned the raid of many squatted social centers and houses in Madrid,
Palencia, Barcelona and Granada and the arrest of 39 people, 15 of
them were accussed of membership of an anarchist terrorist
organization and the rest of them were accused of resistance,
disobedience and squatting. The operation was ordered by the judge of
the Audiencia Nacional Eloy Velasco, who affirms that the detainees
are members of an alleged terrorist platform called Coordinated
Anarchist Groups (GAC) that would be related with an international
group called FAI/FRI. The operation followed a previous one, the
Operación Pandora, ordered by the judge of the Audiencia Nacional
Javier Gómez Bermúdez and that was carried out in Barcelona last
16th of December. During that operation 11 people were
arrested. 7 of them were sent to preventive prison and they were
released last 30th of January with a bail of 3000€.
The
same day that the Audiencia Nacional ordered the release without bail
for three of the 5 detainees of Operación Piñata, the jugde Eloy
Velasco, the same one who ordered this case, has ordered now the
freezing and embargo of the bank account that was opened days after
of the Operación Pandora.
According to the blog Efecto Pandora, an order signed by
Velasco asks to the Information Brigade of the spanish national police
to freez and make an embargo of those bank accounts and, moreover,
to investigate the account movements done since it was open.
