In her book „Feminism is for everybody“ the American author and social activist bell hooks brings it to the point: “Feminist thinking teaches us all, especially, how to love justice and freedom in ways that foster and affirm life”.
This thought and the intention to connect different feminist struggles internationally were in our mind when we decided to launch this small project for the International Women’s day 2015. Today, we were out on the streets with thousands of people to demonstrate against the patriarchal order of the current capitalist society.
We can witness feminist struggles everywhere in the world, like the protests against the rape and murder of a young woman in Turkey. It is evident, that fighting systematic sexual violence and the reduction of those crimes in many courts and many minds in the world means fighting one symptom of a patriarchal society. The way we get it, feminism does not stop there, but implicates a much deeper and more fundamental and radical dimension of opposing the society we are forced to live in. Nevertheless, sexism is one principle of power, which has been found already existing by capitalism and has been adopted, transformed and made efficient and substantial for the own good.
Feminism has also always been in favour of the liberation of women from the structural suppression as the executors of unpaid or underpaid eproductional work, which is irreplaceablefor the whole organization of labour and the survival of capitalism as such. Imagine the impact, when this specific kind of reproduction collapses.
Beyond that sexism and the patriarchal categorization of individuals based on gender does not only concern women, but further more all people which don´t fit or don´t want to fit in the binary gender system; trans- or intersexuals for example are being stigmatised as “anormal” and met with hostility and violence. On the other hand, this patriarchal system does not only produce certain female roles, but also men have to adapt and develop towards a strong role model.
There are many more reasons to contribute to feminism from an anticapitalist, antiauthoritarian perspective and demand a whole new society and another way of living. We tried to integrate as many as we can in our four jingles, which we contribute to all the fighting people on the 8th March – and every other day!
Everyday 8thMarch! Down with patriarchy! Down with capitalism!
