Aboriginal elders and leaders are urging young people to take over the fight for Indigenous rights. Hundreds of people are meeting in Alice Springs for a two-day 'Freedom Summit'. Tauto Sansbury is the chairman of South Australia's Narrunga people and one of the summit conveners.

He said the summit was being held to motivate younger Aboriginal men and women to be more vocal about their rights.

"People like myself and a few others that are coming ... are getting old and tired and we need to basically stoke the fire up and get them out on the streets and starting to protest about the issues ... affecting our communities," he said.

He said the summit would address issues facing their people and their communities and the time had come for a unified national voice.

"I think it will be a great opportunity to come out with a ... resolution that we get a national Indigenous body picked from the summit to represent Aboriginal Australia and their points of view," he said.
