HARLAN, Iowa —Fire destroyed a historic church in Harlan, Iowa, Sunday afternoon.
St Michael's Catholic Church on Eighth Street had been empty for about five years since a new church went up nearby.
Four different fire departments responded to a fire at the church Sunday, working for hours to try to keep the blaze contained. Despite their efforts, the church could not be saved.
At last check, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
